Diarrhea is a huge global health problem. A new probiotic combination concept fights the problem with triple action.
Diarrhea can be a very severe condition, especially in geographic areas such as Africa and South Asia, which have the highest prevalence of childhood diarrhea. The condition causes rapid depletion of vital water and salts, which may lead to dehydration.
The World Health Organization estimates that there are about two billion cases of diarrheal disease globally every year. Even though the Western world is not as heavily affected, it is still a highly unpleasant situation, which may involve absence from work and even hospitalization for the weakest patients - often equivalent to children.
Now global bioscience company Chr. Hansen launches a new probiotic combination concept that can:
- shorten the duration of diarrhea
- prevent dehydration or speed up recovery
- provide support to restore the intestinal flora
“We have developed a triple action product for optimal management of diarrhea by combining our probiotic strain LGG® with Oral Rehydration Solutions (ORS), which are solutions of salts and sugar,” says Charlotte Beyerholm, Marketing Manager, Human Health & Nutrition, Chr. Hansen.
“Conventional products used in connection with diarrhea normally focus on stopping the diarrhea as fast as possible and in some cases also treating the subsequent dehydration. Our new concept not only reduces the duration of the condition – it also supports recovery from dehydration and helps restore a healthy intestinal flora.”
The unique all-in-one solution consists of ONE combined stick pack backed by good clinical documentation and stability data. 13 clinical studies have documented the effect of LGG® + ORS on the duration of diarrhea.
“With the global launch of our new diarrhea and dehydration concept we are offering our customers an opportunity to put a new product on the shelves. We believe that it is a very convenient product. The probiotic and the ORS ingredients are mixed and packed in one consumer-friendly stick pack, which is easy to open and dissolve in 200 ml of cold water,” she explains.
No other products on the market are found to combine Chr. Hansen’s documented strains and oral rehydration solution in one consumer-friendly stick pack, which is not only easy to use; unlike most ORS products it also has a nice, sweet taste.
